The GSDCV is one of the few volunteer dog training clubs that requires all its Instructors to be qualified in the latest obedience training methods to ensure a consistent and positive experience for the members and dogs. To gain these qualifications aspiring instructors must complete a 2 year training course that has been designed and delivered by the GSDCV Obedience Training Committee (OTC). The course consists of monthly theory sessions run at the Western Branch at Keilor Downs and a series of practical lessons and mentoring at various branches of the club.

In 2015 5 members of the Gippsland Branch commenced the Aspiring Instructors course. After hundreds of kilometres travelled, countless hours of mentoring and instruction by GSDCV Instructors at Gippsland and other branches of the GSDCV, a 3 hour written exam and a practical exam they have all successfully graduated as qualified obedience instructors. The Gippsland 5 as they became affectionately known were presented with their certificates by  OTC Administrator Mrs Marilyn Wrigley at the 2017 GSDCV Annual General Meeting.

The Gippsland branch congratulates and welcomes to the local Instructor group Carol Batchelor, Ray Batchelor, Alicia Hart, Anna Tyben and Tania Waixel.

At the Gippsland Branch AGM on 11th of February 2017 we had some changes to our committee for the 2017/2018. Three of the most significant changes were the election of a new Breed Affairs Liaison Officer (BLO), a new Branch Treasurer and a new Chief Instructor.

OUTGOING: Mrs Julie JORDAN                                  INCOMING: Mr David HYND

Julie Jordan’s current term as the Gippsland BLO spans more than 15 years of dedicated service. Other than a short break in the late 1990’s and Early 2000’s Julie has held the position for more than 18 years. However, all things must come to an end and at the 2017 branch AGM members elected Mr David Hynd as the new Gippsland BLO. Julie will continue to serve the Gippsland branch as part of the General Committee. Dave will now move from the position of Chief Instructor that he has held for the past two years into the BLO role. The members of the Gippsland branch would like to thank Julie for her service to the role of BLO and look forward to working with Dave when he takes over at the end of March.

OUTGOING: Mrs Carol BATCHELOR                                         INCOMING: Mr Rick BRADLEY

After three years as the treasurer of the Gippsland Branch Carol has made the decision to stand down due to increasing commitments to family and in other areas of our branch. With a baby due in February and an extremely energetic two year old at home, combined with recently joining the Instructor group after graduating from the aspirers program in October 2016 Carol has decided to move to the less time consuming role of Equipment Officer. Our former Equipment Officer Rick Bradley kindly volunteered to swap with Carol and take on the role of Branch Treasurer. We thank Rick for taking on this challenging role and look forward to working with him in the 2017/2018 year.

OUTGOING: Mr David HYND                                      INCOMING: Mr Alan PURCELL

For the past two years Dave, has served as our Chief Instructor providing dedicated leadership to our highly skilled team of instructors. Dave made the decision to stand down as Chief Instructor to pursue is interest in taking up the BLO position. Alan volunteered to take on the role of Chief Instructor, a position that he has held multiple times throughout the history of the Gippsland Branch. We look forward to working with Alan as our new Chief Instructor.
